Funny  land

While everyone, people and states, wants to be in “ Europe “, “ Europe “ has come to us. Quietly, almost imperceptibly.

It took a seat at slpoes of mountain Motajica in Gornja Lepenica, a vallage near Srbac. It came with ignorance, a dose of fear, even underestemating. It expected desolation, depression, hunger,...But it was not like that. Eleven volunteers that came from distant lands were stuned. Not only that we are not cannibals, as they thought we would be, but we use forks and knifes during meal. there were no mines as they imagined, everything was normal! We welcomed them friendly, the way we do it- with homemade plum brandy. That brandy will later become a sort of “ muse “ of international volunteer working camp “ YOUTH FOR LIFE “ MOTAJICA’06.

Even a certain french volunteer Tristan was called Krsto, because he would cross himself and the bottle he was drinking from, as it is our custom. After that beverage, in the morning we would cure ourselves with curdled milk and cheese pie, that we got from friendly people from Gornja Lepenica.

I will not write abouth that hospitality becouse there are no words to describe it. That has to be experienced!

Volunteers were delighted not only with people but also with natural beauty of our municipality. They admired Motajica Motajica, Bardacha, Gradina,...but also, they criticised our negligence for that we cut the centenery oaks of Motajica...I can not understand it either, but we will drop the sad subjects and carry onwith delightness. Saturday night going out was a real revelation for them. Madnees. Beautiful girls, rejoicing, good music, esspecialy folk music...The morning after. german Cristian could not belive how good it was and he kept asking- how is it possible that in Srbac lives 5000 people but 8000 people goes out saturday night?!he said that our land is a “ Fanny land “, and “ Disneyland for adults “!He could notunderstand anything, he just kept saying that “ Serbs only sleep and drink “. Still, it is not like that. We managed, with the help of village master Dusko, to build and arrange a jaunt place in hamlet Durova, were the camp was placed.

We left it to excursionists, hunters and passers by to preserve it, arrange it and build an annex.

Educationa-ecological workrooms were held in the afternoons and in the evenings we were having a good time playing music.

I will not write abouth falling from the roofs, newborn loves or impaling chicken on a rye. Let it stay between us. I will not write abouth it becouse I eant young people to join the work of youth organizations and experience it by themselves.

P.S. I would like to thank Mark- man of enthusiasm. The man who did so much for Lepenica. I hope that the coming of international volunteers will stimulate him to be steady in his work.
